Description: CONDITION: Slight wear to gilding. This porcelain cup and saucer was produced in France by an unknown manufacturer around 1800. A “litron” cup was fashioned after a wooden cup used to measure salt, flour and grain. The saucer measures 5 inches in diameter and 1 1/4 inches deep. The cup is 2 1/2 inches tall with a diameter of 2 1/2 inches. The cup is 2 1/2 inches tall with a diameter of 2 1/2 inches. The ground color is deep cobalt blue. The front of he cup has a portrait, hand painted en grislle, of a fine gentleman. Encircling the saucer and entire cup, are hand gilded designs of extremely fine artistry, with elaborate ornaments and tiny spouting fountains.
