This external drive is intended to work with Power Mac G4 computers . This item is an external drive chassis with a brand new 1 TB SATA HDD drive with a copy of Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger . It is bootable with all Power Mac G4 computers . It can be used as a data drive with more recent Macs . Some earlier Power Mac G4s require the latest system firmware upgrade , available here : https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1126?locale=en_US&viewlocale=en_US Even if you do not intend to use it as a boot drive , it's a nice drive to transfer files between a wide range of Mac computers . This drive can transfer files between vintage and modern Macs because it has an Apple Partition Map and HFS+ format . Recommended interface for connecting to Power Mac G4 computers ( for both booting and file transfers ) is Fire Wire 400 . This chassis has the following interface ports : USB 2.0 , FireWire 400 , FireWire 800 , eSATA . Only FireWire 400 has been tested with Power Mac G4s for booting and file transfers . Firewire 400 has been tested to work with both a Power Mac G4 Digital Audio and a MDD Mirror Drive Door ( FW400 ) . FireWire 400 , 800 and USB 2.0 have been tested to work with an upgraded Mac Pro 7,1 ( 2019 ) to transfer files . eSATA has not been tested since I currently do not have a Mac available with that interface . It should work , though . OS install includes the Menu Meters Utility and two different PPC CPU versions of TenFourFox for some basic web browsing . Please keep in mind there are no antivirus programs available for Mac OS X Tiger anymore , so none are included . This item has not been tested to boot Tiger with Power Mac G3s or G5s .
