Painting is NOT framed."Self-taught African American artist Reverend Joel Hewlett (1921-1994) was a native of Evansville, Indiana. Hewlett worked at International Harvester and served as an associate pastor of Hood Temple AME Zion Church for 37 years. His religious carvings and paintings, depicting Jesus, biblical scenes and the lives of saints, reflect his deep Christian faith.
