Description: This is an original, WW2 era or possibly later era, locally-made bowie knife with a hand-laced leather belt sheath. It was suggested to us from the collector that brought it to us that the knife was made in the Philippines, which seems plausible. Sharpened steel blade, with hand cut stainless steel cross guard, and riveted clear plexiglass handle. The blade is not terribly heavy or thick (maybe 2mm) but it is stout and can be flexed without warping. Same gauge steel was used to make the cross guard. The sheath is made from thick leather, and has been hand-laced with stout leather. The belt attachment is unusual, and not simply a loop or cuts to accept the belt. May have been intended for another purpose. Total knife length is 14 inches (36cm) and total blade length is 9 1/4 inches (24cm). It was probably purchased new and never used for anything, as there are no signs of re-sharpening or any abuse at all. Could be a Vietnam War era piece also.
