The slide was placed on the belt through the "tunnel". The M1916/M1 holster for the M1911A1 .45 Automatic Pistol would then be attached to the slide through use of the holster's M1910 wire hanger through the grommeted holes in the bottom of the slide. The slide is in VERY GOOD condition. It's the identical russet brown colored leather used during WWI through and including 1956, when the Army switched to black leather equipment. Here's a chance for the owner of a leather pistol belt missing the pistol slide to obtain an issue slide in great condition.
