Description: 1940's Original TIP FREEMAN Honolulu Artist Airbrushed Painting of Red Hibiscus. Airbrush Painting of Native Hawaiian Red Hibiscus Flower Aprox. dimensions: Painting: 14" x 18" no mat Mid Century Modern Wood Frame: 19"x14" Very good original condition! Does have some deterioration on top left corner see photo. Stain on back does not go through to the painting. Should be repacked in more acid protection backing. I have not removed from the glass ever. Not sure why tape on back edge. This is how it looked when I received in 1977 from mother in law. Original frame under glass. My mother in law brought it from Hawaii when she came to the United States in 1947 after the war. Not sure when she purchased as she was born on Hawaii. This is an original airbrushed piece of art from Tip Freeman. Early 1940's WWII Era TIP FREEMAN (1908-1995) was a film and theater stage designer who was also among the nation's top airbrush artists. Graduating from the Chicago Art Institute, Freeman traveled internationally throughout the 1930s, working on the movie production of '40,000 Horsemen' in Australia, for which he created the scenery and sets and played the part of an Arab sheik. In late 1939, he opened the Tip Freeman Art Studio in Honolulu, Hawaii, painting murals and stage drops as well as exploring his pioneering airbrush techniques, During World War II he sold his airbrush paintings by the hundreds to servicemen through military commissaries and was named one of the ten leading airbrush artists in the country.
