Description: This is an original February 1974 issue of Playboy Magazine, and it's part of a trove of magazines we retrieved from a longtime collector. He kept his collection in the basement, and the condition of individual issues ranges from Superb (the CGC equivalent of a 9 or 10) to "space filler" (a CGC 1 or 2). We are listing the issues individually, so we are able to make issue-specific notes regarding condition and content below. Please note that combined product amounts over $35 on a single order from our store get a shipping rebate. The cover of the February 1974 issue is graced by Playmate Karen Christy (December 1971) in her second of three solo appearances on cover. One imagines she was a favorite photographic subject for someone at Playboy because, unlike the decade before, the early 1970s saw a shift at the magazine away from models having multiple covers to their credit. Pictorials include a revealing look at actress Alexandra Hay, one on "The Girls of Skiing", and a different revealing look at actress Ratna Assan (whose career had just culminated with a role in the Steve McQueen vehicle "Papillon"). There is only one fiction contribution (from no less than Susan Sontag), but there are two non-fiction pieces of note: one by actress Candice Bergen — about her traveling to China as a "cultural worker" — and an opinion piece by economist John Kenneth Galbraith. Other content includes the usual cartoons and humor, as well as Part 7 of Playboy's history of organized crime (this one focusing on the 1940s and the uncovering of revelation about "Murder Inc."). The interview is with actor Clint Eastwood, and the centerfold is Francine Parks (notably the only cover model or Playmate ever to have been named Francine). The condition of this issue is, in our opinion, a straight-up 7. The main condition issue of note is a tear at the bottom of the front cover, plus a smaller one at top (see images) that continues for several pages. Aside from that, the general wear/handling of the issue can be characterized as "light", all pages are present (including the centerfold), there are no other dog-ears, creases or folds of note, and the binding staples are secure with no tearing around them. Significantly, there's also none of that "old magazine smell" that sometimes afflicts collections — there's just the smell of ink and paper. This specimen would be an excellent addition to any collection. All our issues are shipped in protective polybag sleeves.
