Description: Small folio C and I lithograph showing a yet to be built Brooklyn Bridge. Building this bridge took 15 years and was a major technological achievement. Currier and Ives was famous for capturing current events so it is not surprising that they published this image in 1872, eleven years before the bridge would open. Interestingly, the towers appear a bit generic here since the design would change when construction began. The information in the lower margin notes the scale and final cost estimate of $8,000,000! The image measures 8 1/2” x 12 3/8” on a 12 3/4” x 15 7/8” sheet. Good condition but with some light toning and a few small spots of ink abrasion in the lower right corner as shown.
