Description: Size: Mount 37 x 43 cm, drawing inside mount 28 x 22 cm. Condition: Drawing in very good condition, mount new. This is a very well executed drawing of a classical scene, possibly from a relief sculpture. Possibly the subject matter is Bacchus and Ariadne. The drawing is in a brown ink applied with a pen or fine brush, and there are traces on pencil lines. The drawing is 18th century in style, and also on fine laid paper which would corroborate a date of 1780 or earlier. The drawing came from a collection which included a number of drawings of the 18th and early 19th centuries. This drawing had a note attached suggesting Samuel Woodforde as possibly the artist.
