Year: 2001 Designed by Gianluca Malaguti Simoni Ref. 009A0001 Omas celebrated the beauty, the spirit and the soul of the capital of France with the Omas Limited Edition Ville Lumiere Fountain Pen. At the end of the XIX century, Paris, already well-known for its lighting, replaced its gas lamps with electricity, pouring light over the city streets and the facades of its most beautiful buildings. Soon the city came to be known as the Ville Lumière. But there were other reasons. The grandiose public works carried out by the city Prefect Haussman, the Court of Napoleon III, which attracted the most famous personalities of the day, the building of the City Opera in 1875 and the Eiffel Tower in 1900, the Underground, the Great Exhibitions between 1899 and 1900, scientific research which made Paris the undisputed centre of the world. Ville Lumière meant a certain gaiety, joy in life, and Paris was a trend setter in this too. In the pen you can ideally walk down the city, over the cable stones, admiring the slate and zinc roofs, which create such a wonderful and imposing atmosphere. You can stop on one of the bridges over the Seine to watch the bateaux mouches; you can admire the symbol of the Eiffel Tower on the gold clip with diamonds. Walking down the Champs Elysées your mind will probably turn to fashion, luxury, pearls and jewels, the theatre and cabaret. The curtains on the stage … a “Can Can” and the notes of an accordion will end this imaginary trip in 18k gold and diamonds. Only 60 examples of Omas Limited Edition Ville Lumiere Fountain Pen were ever produced. The concerned pens comes in near mint condition. It has been previously inked with blue ink. It comes with a huge and beautifully crafted case in Citronnier (a rare wood from the island of Sri Lanka), outer box, matching papers/Certificate (duly stamped). The pen was purchesed in Paris on April 11th 2002. The buyer will receive the OMAS Collector’s Limited Edition Book. For privacy reasons the name of the previous owner has been hidden. Limited Edition: #02/60 (!!) About OMAS Omas was established in Bologna (Italy) in 1925 by Armando Simoni who designed equipments and tools for the company to make the Omas Pens. The name OMAS comes from the first letters of Officina Meccanica Armando Simoni, a name synonymous to quality and contemporary design today. Some of the most iconic designs of OMAS includes the vintage Omas Doctor Pen which allows a thermometer to be inserted into the pen, Omas Art Italiana Collection, Omas 360 Collection with a triangular body to maximize grip and writing comfort. The largest size pen manufactured as a non-limited edition in the OMAS stable include the 12-faceted Paragon, the second largest being the Milord Collection. Omas product range was last updated in 2005 with the Milord model which has the size of the pre-2005 Paragon model. OMAS continued to release Limited editions based on their earlier style pens. In 2000, the French company LVMH acquired OMAS from the heirs of Armando Simoni. Subsequently, in October 2007 the Xinyu Hengdeli Group 亨得利 of Hong Kong purchased 90% equity stake in OMAS. It was subsequently sold to another Chinese company O-Luxe. As at this time of writing, OMAS pens have become such a collectible pen that exudes luxury and contemporary design of modern times.
