GENEALOGY BUFFS will find a list of 1888 county officers and businesses, and biographies on Januarius Aloysius MacGahan, Bulgaria's Liberator, Gen. James M. Comly, journalist, and Oliver Hazard Perry. The Howe history covers the development of this area until about 1890, while excerpts from the WPA book, give a nostalgic glimpse from a 1940 vantage point, including interesting historical notes, especially as they relate to sightseeing possibilities. A 1933 look at the history of newspapers in the county, articles from a 1941 history on Januarius Aloysius MacGahan, the Old Toll Gate, the Shrine of St. Joseph, and Jeremiah M.
