Description: BRAND BACKGROUND: ONI Denim occupies an exalted tier at the top of the Japanese denim scene. Led by Mr. Oishi-san, a Master denim-smith with over 50 years of experience, ONI crafts artful & unique fabrics in very small batches. Mr. Oishi-san oversees everything from the thread spinning, dyeing and weaving on antique power looms, to the actual construction of the jeans. Paired with his aggressive creative approach, his unyielding attention to detail ensures that every article that bears the ONI name exceeds normal quality standards, elevating a workwear staple into an art form. FABRIC: This pair, made from the brand new and highly-limited "Kasuri" fabric, is no exception. Like the legendary ONI Kase and Kihannen fabrics, there's no guarantee that this fabric will be produced again. The photos hardly do justice to the Capital-S Slub and patchy, wavy texture made by the irregularly sized indigo warp and ecru weft yarns. From the inside, the denim resembles a magic-eye drawing, the movement of television static. From the outside, the complex slub structure is wildly eye-catching and sure to draw compliments on the street. Gorgeous Kabuki-inspired purple and yellow selvedge ID complement along the outer seam. SIZING & FIT: This pair follows a trend with some of ONI's rarest and most prized fabrics. The overall sizing is smaller than seasoned ONI-heads have come to expect, perhaps because the highly irregular yarns and low-tension weave pulls together more tightly than on a more regularly constructed fabric. Although these will stretch, you'll want to take your regular size or size up with this pair, not down as you normally would for the brand. Measurements are included in the photos and the listing. If sized correctly, you can anticipate a medium rise and generous top block, tapering to a narrow knee and narrower leg opening. These should stretch about 1-2" in the waist after some wear.
