Description: North Borneo 1897-99 SG D20 P 15 Sc J16 8 Cent Postage Due See scans for details as these form part of the description. The British North Borneo Company administered North Borneo, under a royal charter granted in 1881, until 1946 when it became a British Colony. Scott Catalogue: Quantities of most North Borneo stamps through 1912 have been cancelled to order (CTO) with an oval of bars. Values given for used stamps beginning with No. 6 are for those with this form of cancelation. Stamps from No. 6 through to Nos. 159 and J31 that do not exist CTO have used values in italics. Stamps with dated town cancellations sell for much higher prices. Stanley Gibbons: CANCELLED TO ORDER: Prices are seperately indicated in a third price column for stamps showing the recognisable black bars remainder cancellation. The issues since 1916 have not been thus cancelled. It should be noted, however, that a postmark of this form was used for postal purposes up to this period, and was used at one or two smaller post offices until 1949. A small oval with five bars was used to mark railway mail during 1945/1955 and also as a paquebot mark at Jesselton c 1950. NOTE: The standard Stanley Gibbons world catalogue does not show the third column for CTO.Selling off a large specialised collection of North Borneo stamps. The collection includes some unlisted (Stanley Gibbons Specialised) perforations varieties and many scarcer items with catalogue values in the hundreds of pounds. This is NOT an area I specialise in so please let me know if you see something that is incorrectly listed so I can fix any errors I have made. I am relying on the original notes on the collection pages as well as a 2020 Stanley Gibbons 1840-1970 Commonwealth Specialised Catalogue. I also have a current Scott Catalogue and will try to list numbers from both catalogues where possible.
