Description: Scarce Lot of 3 Nice Original Antique Victorian Carpet Beaters DESCRIPTION: As shown. Variety of 3 different antique Victorian carpet beaters, c.1880. These were used prior to the invention of electric vacumn cleaners. They helped get out the deep dirt ground into the rugs and carpets. Once or twice a year, e.g. springtime, people would lug their rugs outside and drape them over the clothline. Then used these carpet beaters to literally beat them and enable the dirt to fall out. A lot of work but very effective!!!Here are 3 different ones from the same age, c.1880. Two are made of heavy wire with nice broad design. Made very substantial to withstand the "violent" beating. Wooden handle on the wire ones. The wicker one is also strong and substantial. Has a nice style/design on the "beater", and has a heavy woven handle."Blades" measure between 9 - 12" wide and overall between 30 - 36" long. Can be actually used or make great antique decorating items. Very nice condition overall. One wooden handle has a crack in it, and the wire has slight surface rust, but they look great.You get all 3 beaters in the lot.PLEASE SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS!!!
