Description: NGC ( F ) Roman AR Denarius Faustina Jr. AD 147- 175/6Born around 130 AD, Faustina the Younger, the youngest child of Emperor Antoninus Pius, became a prominent Roman empress. Marrying her cousin Marcus Aurelius in 145, she earned the title Augusta in 147. Despite accusations, she and Marcus shared a seemingly devoted relationship, with Faustina admired by soldiers as Mater Castrorum ('Mother of the Camp'). Her involvement in the alleged revolt of Avidius Cassius remains uncertain. Faustina's death in 175 led to grief from Marcus, who deified her and buried her in the Mausoleum of Hadrian. The couple had at least 14 children, and Faustina's maternal role was celebrated with coins and statues portraying her as Juno Lucina. Her legacy included the renaming of Halala to Faustinopolis and charitable initiatives, like the Baths of Faustina in Miletus.
