LAST NEW BOOK This is a photographic narrative of the New York & Long Branch. The New York and Long Branch Railroad was a railroad in central New Jersey, running from Bay Head Junction in Bay Head to Perth Amboy, where it connected to the Central Railroad of New Jersey's Perth Amboy and Elizabethport Railroad. The railroad was jointly owned and operated by the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Central Railroad of New Jersey and became property of Conrail in 1976. It is now part of New Jersey Transit's North Jersey Coast Line. Most of the photographs were taken in the 1960s. This is the first time John Truitt is sharing his photographs with the general public. Photographs date from the 1964 to 1970. John Truitt grew up along the northern New Jersey seashore in Point Pleasant Beach when the big K-4 Pennsylvania Railroad and the large Jersey Central Pacifics still roamed the rails. While commuting on both the PRR and the CNJ during the summer of 1965, Truitt captured the everyday operations of the two railroads on the southern segment of the NY&LB. Truitt's memories come to life within this publication. Numerous full color images, along with some b&w illustrations, depict PRR "A" and "Sharknose" units and the Jersey Central "Baby Trainsmasters," "Trainmasters" and ALCo RS diesels. Both passenger and freight trains are depicted at Sea Girt, Manasquan, Point Pleasant Beach and Bay Head Junction.
