Description: New York City NY: c.1925-30 Artist Postcard HOTEL TIMES SQUARE 43rd Street Nice art, but I cannot find a signature on this printed postcard from the late 1920s up to maybe 1930, based on the cars. Published by Ruth Mary Miller of Philadelphia. Condition of this original vintage postcard is VG, some corner bumps, but NO creases. A scarcer card. The Times Square Hotel is located in New York, New York. The building was built in 1922 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 4, 1995. Built by the developer Henry Claman in 1922, as president of the West Forty-eighth Street Realty Company. Claman had purchased from the Charles A. Christmas estate some buildings that had been at the corner of 43rd Street and 8th Avenue and added them to a lot Claman already owned on 43rd. It was originally called the Claman Hotel (catering to single men). The hotel was soon acquired by Manger Hotels, who changed the name to the Times Square Hotel in 1923, with one floor reserved for women. A partnership headed by Arthur Schwebel ran the building from 1962 to 1981. In 1963, Shwebel changed the name of the hotel to the "Times Square Motor Hotel," adding the word "Motor "because there was a need for moderately priced hotel accommodations with free parking." In the early 1970s, the hotel became home to the mentally ill and troubled Vietnam War veterans, and New York City subsequently placed welfare recipients there. After a period of deterioration, Covenant House acquired the building in 1984 as real estate investment. Common Ground, offering affordable housing for working professionals and the formerly homeless, some of whom live with HIV/AIDS, mental illness, or physical disabilities, acquired the building in 1991 as its flagship supportive housing residence. 230516 / 1215 R5/24/2023 AUS _____________________________ The large scans below offer the best description of the condition of the postcards offered. NEAR MINT (NM): Like mint but very light aging of very slight discoloration from being in an album for many years. Not as sharp or crisp. EXCELLENT (EX): Like mint in appearance with no bends or creases, or rounded or blunt corners. May be postally used or unused and with writing and postmark only on the address side. A clean, fresh card on the picture side. VERY GOOD (VG): Corners may be just a bit blunt or rounded. Almost undetectable crease or bend that does not detract from overall appearance of the picture side. May have writing or postally used on the address side. A very collectible card. GOOD (G): Corners may be noticeably blunt or rounded with noticeable slight bends or creases. May be postally used or have writing on address side. FAIR: Card is intact. If you do this, then that friend will forward the postcards in a letter rate envelope to you the buyer, and the shipping risk will be yours, not mine. Multiple purchases can also be combined when you ship to a USA recipient. This is the way of the future on ebay, as more and more sellers move away from the risks of untracked international letter rate mail. 6) REPRODUCTION OF IMAGES: Seller is not selling the exclusive rights to reproduce images of the item offered. Buyer is of course free to reproduce as they wish, but seller retains and may exercise the right to reproduce any images of the item for any purpose before or after the sale, without permission from or compensation to the buyer. 7) LISTING DISCREPANCIES: If the Title, Description, and/or Photo on a listing do not match, for gosh sakes don't buy it.
