Description: NEW Alanger 1/350 NOVOMOSKOVSK Delta IV Class Nuclear Ballistic Missile Sub During the Cold War, the Soviet submarine cruisers Project 667B were known as the Delta class. They consisted of a total of four types, which NATO referred to as Delta I to Delta IV. After the development and construction of the Typhoon class, it was realized that this was not an optimal solution. Construction and operating costs were not economically viable. This was also due to the D-19 missile complex used with its super-heavy RSM-52 solid-fuel rockets. In 1977, development of a new missile complex began. The submarine cruisers of Project 667BDRM Delfin, NATO designation SSBN Delta IV with a total length of 167m, were intended to be the carriers for this. The use of significantly longer missiles also required an extraordinarily high structure of the missile section behind the turret, which clearly characterizes this type of submarine cruiser. A total of seven units of this class were built in Severodvinsk between 1985 and 1992.
