It’s fitted with the NA523 MC phono cards and comes with the original ‘twin eye’ remote control with separate listen and record selectors. This example is fitted with the sought after Naim NA523-S Moving Coil input boards. The Naim NA523 MC phono boards let you hook up a turntable with MC cartridge. These boards are usually around £100 - £170 to buy - making this pre-amp even better if you use vinyl. It’s in full working order with no buzzing from amp or power supply. All the amp illumination works (including the NAPSC LED). All the switches and sockets are secure. The remote’s working and has its battery cover firmly attached. Cosmetically, the amp is in very good condition for its age, with unmarked facia and rear panel. The casing has a few minor marks, mostly touched in, but done to a good standard, so that the amp presents very well for its age. The feet are in excellent, un-cracked condition, so I would suspect have been replaced at some point. The NAPSC power supply is in excellent condition and is unmodified (cut down/replacement cables and/or replacement feet aren’t uncommon). The remote control is also in excellent condition, with a unbroken battery cover. Please see the photos to make a personal appraisal of the condition. It comes complete with it’s original NAPSC power supply, instruction manual, remote control and both blanking plugs. I make a point of the word ‘original’, as its very common to find NAC82s of this age either missing these accessories or supplied with alternatives. The original Naim packaging is all complete, including all the internal packaging, with the card to hold the NAPSC in place. About the NAC82 Developed from the legendary NAC52, the NAC82 was one of the first Naim pre-amps to feature remote control, a full width case and a sound that suited CD just as well as vinyl. This makes it a spectacularly good all-rounder with the modern day NAC282 being little (if any) better - at a cost of over £4500. The sound has the punch and energy you’d expect from Naim but also clarity that the older models, such as the NAC72 can’t match. Being a higher spec Naim pre-amp it features separate record/listen switches and a ‘proper’ balance control rather than an electronic one. It also has handy ‘mute’ and ‘mono’ buttons. Inputs total five DIN sockets and a pair of BNC sockets for a turntable. Another wonderful feature with the NAC 82 is how upgradable they are. You can start with one HiCap, then add another and finally power it from a SuperCap which is still Naim’s top pre-amp power supply. The beauty of buying secondhand NAC 82s is that they are both incredibly reliable and also widely serviced all over the world.The hand-made construction is first-rate and, with no power supply within the main unit, degradation from heat is not an issue. Although it sounds best with HiCap or SuperCap it can be powered by the output from a matching Naim power amp, such as the NAP180 For the perfect match, use the NAC 82 with a matching ‘Olive’ NAP180 or NAP250 with HiCap or SuperCap. It also works exceptionally well with the newer ‘Classic’ Naim models. Reviews Highly regarded both in its time and to this day, the NAC82 has always been well reviewed in the Hi-Fi press.
