Description: This auction is a stunning example of an iridescent ammonite fossil of the species Caloceras johnstoni from North Somerset, UK. The piece of limestone matrix measures 122 mm (4.8 inches) wide and contains multiple fragments of ammonite shell that are very well preserved, and have been prepared out of the rock to reveal the details. The shells display some stunning iridescence with the colours changing depending on the angle that the fossil is viewed at with red and green tones dominating at certain angles. The colours also change as the type of light changes. The ammonites shells still sit in the original limestone matrix in which they were found that has been shaped and had a flat base cut for display. The whole piece weighs 220 grams. Around 200 million years old (Hettangian, Early Jurassic), this fossil would make a wonderful addition to any collection. Please take some time to check out my other items and to add me to your favorites list. Combined shipping: I offer combined shipping on all of my fossils. If you wish to purchase multiple fossils, just send a message to let me know and I can hold any order open for up to 25 days from the first auction win/purchase for more fossils to be added to the order. After you have finished adding items to an order, let me know and I will combine the shipping to the lowest amount possible for your items. The shipping cannot be combined automatically due to the large variation in weight of the fossils and the costs of different weight classes of the Royal Mail. Contact me if you have any questions and I will be happy to help!
