Description: Books Made Film, Text Descriptions and Valuation This bundle/lot contains a number of books that are listed singly elsewhere in this collection. Here they are gathered together. As such, the books in this sub-group only have one to three pictures per item, as there are only 24 allowed in total. However, you’ll find here a text description of each book. Additionally, feel free to send a message for more information, or to start a conversation about offers. All The Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy, Paperback, Collectible, Like New All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy is the classic first installment of his Border trilogy. McCarthy's books commonly become films, likely in part owing to his sparse, Spartan writing style; one evocative of scripts. McCarthy uses no quotation marks in dialogue between characters. It makes for a first jarring, then immersive reading experience. This copy is the first printing of the First Vintage International Edition, produced in June of 1993. Single Price: $29.99 Beyond and Back, Ralph Wilkerson, 1978, Vintage Paperback, Movie Tie-In Very Goo Beyond and Back by Ralph Wilkerson was influential enough it spawned a movie, and someone took the time to read through this book very carefully as a result. The physical condition of the book is exceptional, it looks as new as a book on a shelf in a department store. However, someone did underline and comment on a variety of passages in the book. So though it's only a fourth printing of a 1977 3rd edition, it has been priced to reflect interior markings. These do not inhibit readability or display capability. 237 Numbered Pages. Single Price: $14.99 Big Trouble, Barry, Dave, Hardcover, Classic Cover, Collectible, Fun Dave Barry's novels are excellent and hilarious, as are his observational writings. A Floridian, he writes about a region of the country and its inherent madness. He got the word out before "Florida Man" became a popular meme. This particular edition is possibly a first edition; the dust jacket has a barcode. However, the book itself has the same matte black design as most book club copies I've encountered. That said, the book itself is in excellent condition, the dust jacket has a few rips and other cosmetic damages. 255 Pages. Single Price: $24.99 Bring on the Empty Horses, David Niven, Softcover, 1976, Very Good/Fine, Vintage The Phantom Himself provides insight into Hollywood from the inside out in a very rare way that provides a perspective on elite movers and shakers in society that is rare, poignant, and thought-provoking. David Niven was at the core of Hollywood machinations for decades. One of his most memorable roles was as "The Phantom" in Blake Edwards' "The Pink Panther". It turns out he's a fine author, as well as an extremely charming performer. This book is in very good shape, the spine is unbroken though it does exhibit exterior creasing. There are some very mild scuff marks around external edges of the book consistent with decades of shelf-ware. The book's external pages have a beautiful turquoise coloration. This is the first edition of the book to be published in softcover, the year after the hardcover edition came out. This is the first printing of the original text in softcover. It is readable, collectible, and provides information from an inside source on Hollywood; information that definitely has some applicability in the modern world. 352 numbered pages. Single Price: $39.99 Death on the Nile, Agatha Christie, Classic Cover From Classic Film--Best Poirot The Poirot in the seventies "Death on the Nile" is, in the opinion of this book collector and many others, the best Poirot. The gentleman who played the character in "The Orient Express" certainly did an excellent job, and was very close to the book's depiction of him, but he was a bit more intense than, perhaps, Christie wrote him. At any rate, this copy of her essential novel features the cast of the seventies' adaptation on the cover, making it a limited print, special edition of the book; only this iteration of the classic novel featured this cover. The book is in very good shape, it has a few cosmetic flaws around the edges, the spine has mild wear. A small quantity of blue ink is on the book's cover. It is vintage, collectible, and relatively rare considering its print run was designed to coincide with the film. For the Agatha Christie fan, this is certainly a fine item to acquire. Single Price: $44.95 Desperate Measures, Rober Tine, Movie Tie-In Paperback 1st US Softcover Ed/Print The film "Desperate Measures" had a notable impact on its release in the early nineties. This is the softcover tie-in novel based on the script David Klass wrote. Novelist Robert Tine put this novel together. It is a first edition in softcover, and a first printing of that first edition in softcover. Pages sit firmly in the binding, the only damage is cosmetic, and what can be expected from traditional shelf-ware over nearly thirty years. 213 Numbered Pages. Single Price: $14.99 Hook, Terry Brooks, 1992, Hardcover, 1st Edition, 1st printing, Ex Libris, Good Hook by Terry Brooks is a film tie-in novelization based on the screenplay by Jim V. Hart and Malia Scotch Marmo, which itself was based on the screen story by Jim V. Hart and Nick Castle. Said screen story and screenplay eventually led to the financially successful Hook, directed by Steven Spielberg and staring Robin Williams. Few know of this book's novelization. Terry Brooks is famous for his original Intellectual Properties, not film tie-ins. This particular book is a rarity. Few knew there was a novelization to tie-in tot he film Hook. The fact that Spielberg etc. commissioned a venerated Fantasy author to do the job is commendable. This particular edition was a library copy in Custer, South Dakota. There is an additional plastic cover atop the traditional dust-jacket, protecting it. However, there is a checkout card on the inside cover, and a few earth-hued markings on inside title pages. Otherwise, the book is in very good condition and features full-color photos from the film in the center. This is an odd collector's item as it appeals to both literary fans and cinephiles. This book has 275 numbered pages. Single Price: $49.99 I Am Legend , Richard Matheson, 2007, Film Tie-in, Clctr's cover, 2nd Ed./1 pirnt This book was originally published in 1954, and has had a varied history since. There is a movie called "The Omega Man" with Charlton Heston based on the same novel. Also, "The Last Man on Earth", starring Vincent Price, was based on this book. It was reprinted in its first TOR edition as "I Am Legend" in the early nineties. This copy is the second TOR edition, and the first print of that edition, featuring Will Smith on the cover. Its relationship to the film, and the increasing relevance said film has had in the wake of 2020's world-changing events, has made this particular edition increasingly collectible. This particular copy is in very good to fine condition with only several cosmetic areas featuring any sort of damage. Namely, on the front cover, the outward facing corners have very mild wear. Otherwise the book is in pristine condition, and appears to have only been read sparingly. See pictures for details. 312 numbered pages. Single Price: $24.95 The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, Stieg Larsson, 1st Mass Market Paperback ed., 5th Printing Many don't realize "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" was the beginning of a trilogy by Stieg Larsson. Fewer realize Larsson died before the publication of this trilogy, perhaps owing to some of the subject matter contained in its pages, and the parties concerned; of course that's conjecture. The official narrative is that he died of a heart attack at 50 climbing stairs. Regardless, these books were all made into films that had a certain level of popularity. This particular copy is in very good condition, though the spine's creasing is evidence the book has been read at least once, if not several times. This particular copy was published in 2012 after being translated into English. THis book has a very minor tendency toward a dog-ear on the bottom right of the cover, see pictures. 820 numbered pages. Single Price: $17.99 The Minus Man by Lew McCreary 1991 Hardcover w/ dj Like new! The Minus Man by Lew McReary eventually became a film of the same name staring Owen Wilson and a number of other recognizable celebrities. This particular copy of the book is in its first edition, and is one of the first print run of the novel. However, it is a library discard. Beyond indications of library categorization, the book appears new, and may note have been read. There is one stamp on the library insert card at the back; it is unclear if this was the discard date, or the only checkout. 249 Numbered Pages. Single Price: $20.55 The Right Stuff, Tom Wolfe, Vintage 20th Printing of the Softcover First Edition The Right Stuff by Tom Wolfe would lead to a movie that actually came out the same year as this edition, and this printing. This book is in very good condition, only exhibiting regular wear. There is slight creasing along the spine, slight scuffing on the edges. This book has 368 Numbered Pages. Single Price: $14.99 The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor (Robert & Bonansinga) 1 ed., 1 print The Walking Dead was a graphic novel, a television series that leaned hard into it's "R" rating, and even a mobile video game tie-in. This book expands the lore of the world-building across these platforms, and is a well-regarded work. Rise of the Governor bears dual authorship, and this copy is a first edition, first printing in hardback. A worth acquisition for serious fans of The Walking Dead IP. Single Price: $49.99 The Horse Whisperer by Nicholas Evans 1995 Hardcover, Early Edition, Collectible The Horse Whisperer was such a well-received novel it would become a film released only three years after the book's publication. The book was published in 1995, the movie came out in 1998. It's a beloved classic, and this copy is in fine shape. It has 323 pages, and the copyright page indicates this copy was indeed printed in 1995. However, there is no direct indication whether this is a first printing or not. It is the first edition of the text, certainly; the question is how early this particular book's printing is. The true first edition has 404 pages. However, that first edition's publication was in October of 1995. The edition I'm making available has 1995 listed as its copyright, leaving only two months in the year to print additional runs besides the first printing, first edition of this book. Accordingly, it is certainly one of the earliest copies available. Whatever its true history, this is a collector's item in good condition. Single Price: $49.99 The Man From UNCLE No 16 The Splintered Sunglasses Affair Paperback Book 1968 The Man From U.N.C.L.E. was a television series like Mission: Impossible, but "light". It was about an incredibly secret agent with a few hilarious gadgets. This series was eventually made into a film by Guy Ritchie in the 2000s. This particular copy is in very good shape, however there is some notable cosmetic damage on the back where it looks as though a piece of tape were hastily ripped off for some reason. There does appear to be some moisture wear as well, though it hasn't totally ruined the book. See pictures for details. Single Price: $19.99 Where Eagles Dare, Alistair MacLean 1st Ed, Later Print, HB , Collectible, Rare This is a later printing of a first edition that does not include a dust jacket. Where Eagles Dare was barely made available to the public before a film by the same name starring Clint Eastwood, among others, hit theaters. This particular copy is in near perfect condition, but there are a few scuffs on the back cover, and one on the front. The pages are intact and unfolded, this book seller could find no markings within the book, and it appears as though it may not have been read. Certainly a find for fans of Alistair MacLean, a legendary author. It's also a fine discovery for those who enjoyed the film, or the era both pieces of media allude to. Single Price: $79.99 World War Z, Max Brooks, Paperback, First Edition, First Printing, Collectible This is a first edition, first printing of World War Z. It is the first paperback run of the book, and was purchased within months of its release. The book is in good condition with minor cosmetic damage. It's a fun read and an excellent collector's item. Single Price: $49.99 Noir, Thriller, Murder Mystery, Death On The Nile, Agatha Christie, Pre-Film The original novel "Death on the Nile" by Agatha Christie was published in 1937. This is the 11th printing of that novel in paperback, and the 14th printing overall. This printing predates the 1978 movie, and has a classic, collectible cover. The book is generally in good condition. It's readable, the book's structural integrity is intact, and it is displayable. However, upon opening, there are five distinct punctures that intrude in visible fashion until about page 63. These punctures do not impact the book's readability, and become indents after about twenty pages or so, but they are evident, and indicate a level of damage to the book. Also, the previous owner wrote her name in the book two separate times. The cover does have some slight sticker damage on the top-right. The spine is creased but unbroken, all pages sit firmly in the binding. Faint discoloration along the bottom of back pages. 214 Numbered Pages. Single Price: $20.55 Vintage Paperback, Sci-Fi/Horror, Lifeforce, Colin Wilson, 1985, Film Cover From films Alien to Total Recall to Dark Star to Heavy Metal, Dan O'Bannon has been involved in some wild IPs. Lifeforce is one of them. This is a novelization of the film whose story direction was largely shaped by O'Bannon. This book was published in 1985 as a film tie-in, though the copyright indicates as an intellectual property, this narrative was kicking around for at least nine yeas. This copy is in very good condition, a previous owner has used tape on the spine and top-right cover. This and several mild creases keep this book from qualifying as "fine", but it is in very good condition, the pages all sit firmly in the binding, and it has a story behind it. 220 Numbered Pages.
