Description: This is a lovely original Wood Mounted Terracotta / Clay Elephant Torso from Ayutthaya (Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya) / Thailand. My father purchased this item in Bangkok in the early 1970’s during the period he owned an Antique Shop in Penang, Malaysia. The piece was purchased from Anna's Antiques a well respected dealer located in the area of Surawong & Silom Road close to the Oriental Hotel. This Terracotta fragment is an entire torso piece just lacking the four legs. The piece is fully removable from the base and is anchored on a small peg affixed to the back leg. The front of the elephant lays directly on the wood mount. This item would make a nice addition to any antique collector specializing in Thai Antique Terracotta pieces. At a minimum I would estimate this item dates to the late 18th Century (Ayutthaya Period of Thai History). Elephant Dimensions: 3 7/8 inches high by 6 1/4 inches wide. Weight: 13.9 ounces (394 grams) Dimensions of Wood Mount: 1/2 inch high by 4 3/4 by 2 1/2. There is soft green felt on the bottom of the mount for added stability Returns accepted if not completely satisfied with 30 days.
