Description: For a proposed build you are now admiring some of my custom made WW-2 vintage type Monarch jackets. In this case, I am offering a AN-J-3A jacket from Monarch's 1943 mil spec 20570 contract. Recreated by me using Monarch's original mil spec patterns worn during WW-2. This particular jacket replicates one of my all time favorite USN type flight jackets made and worn during WW-2. Priced here using a seal or chocolate brown colored goat hide. In sizes 36 through 48 to suit. Let me tell you about this jacket! This proposed build duplicates one of the three (M-422, M-422A and AN) model USN flight jackets Monarch built during WW-2. In this case what I refer to as the mid War AN model jacket design. Those reproduction Monarch flight jackets seen in the descriptive attached (regular sized 40, 42, 44 & 48) images are only all examples of this proposed jackets that were previously built or restored by me. Among the last pix seen is a pair of my original size 46 Monarch jackets and originals that were in part utilized to derive my patterns. Now in my personal collection. None of those jackets seen within the descriptive images are included nor for sale here. However, all are fine examples of exactly what you can expect for your proposed build. After many years of collecting I have been fortunate enough to have accumulated several Large size original WW-2 era USN Monarch jackets. To include two of my original 20570 jackets seen within the descriptive images. Through the use of my many originals as pattern jackets I can accurately duplicate these Monarch's correctly in any size. All were taken down to their individual panel pieces. While apart I patterned them complete. Thereafter I painstakingly restored by going so far as reusing their original stitch holes throughout. Now robust enough to be worn by me on the occasion.Subsequently, I've made these same Monarch jackets my concentration for reproducing. A premier WW-2 military jacket maker I greatly admire for it's style, comfort and look. Above all other makers this particular jacket is my most favorite vintage jacket maker for both civilian & mil spec jackets. Let me tell you all about what you can expect with one of my custom builds!Arguably the most form fitting of all the WW-2 model USN leather flight jackets. This make jacket is best suited for those with an athletic build yet extremely comfortable if correctly sized to the individual. To begin I only use superior vegetable or chrome tanned goat hides for your build. The hides that I have readily available are 1.00 to 1.2 mm thick. Much like these jackets were originally made. This jacket's hide will improve it's look with wear. Thus only get better looking with time and ultimately developing patina & an attribute not found with more modern chrome tanned jackets. Among the descriptive images show hides that I recently sourced specifically for my USN type jacket reproduction builds. The first is a comparison of my original and the second a close up of that same jacket. Arguably the most grainy hides that I have seen to date. Perfect for this War era Monarch build. If interested I also do a civilian version of the AN-J-3 (leather collar) using both the same AN-J-3A or M-422 designs in either horse or goat hide. Please see my AN-J-3A type here EBAY ITEM # 113834001395 or the M-422 type here EBAY ITEM # 115095896612. An optional and more expensive goat hide can be made using an over dyed russet hide. The over dyed russet is a most interesting technique. More often that not used by Monarch on some of it's earlier M-422, M-422A and this 20570 AN model jackets. Given wear, the dyed russet will eventually loose portions of it's top coat. Thereafter revealing russet undertones to the high wear areas. One of those original examples seen in the last of the descriptive images showing different degrees of wear and factory done using that same technique. The rayon lining material to be used for your build was sourced out of the UK. That same standard type lining & colors originally used on USN type WW-2 flight jackets. This same proposed material to be used is the absolute thickest and correctly colored rayon I have ever found. Please note, lining upgrades are available. In fact both jacket examples shown were done with their lining doubled. Originally the just earlier M-422 and M-422A Monarch jackets came with seal brown knits. On the other hand, these 20570 mid War era AN model Monarch jackets often came equipped with atypical colored knits. Notably to qualify that statement I've attached an original example of one of those original 20570 AN-J-3A Monarchs that came factory equipped with dull purple knits. Seen in the last images. Offered here in that same unique colored dull purple or if desired using typical brown knits. Subsequently, I've had dull purple colored (historically correct only to this particular make & model Monarch jacket) knits custom made to more closely duplicate those original War era made Monarch jackets. The moutons I utilize to recreate the collars come from vintage garments. Carefully selected by me and perfect to replicate those original jackets. Your proposed AN-J-3A jacket is priced to come with a correct era NOS Talon zip and same era buttons. However, a discount can be made if a reproduction type chain and original slider is substituted. All my builds will be stitched using the same type & color cotton thread as per the original. AN model Monarch jackets were originally stitched using a burgundy colored 100% cotton thread. Recently retired my vintage Reece 101 keyhole buttonhole machine. Going forward all my USN jackets buttonhole work will be done with a modern buttonhole machine to recreate their pocket flaps and throat latches. Now done with an even greater degree of perfection as seen with the provided close up within the descriptive images. In addition I have added a short video clip of my new button hole machine creating a Monarch pocket flap. There is a waiting period for this build. If you are interested and want your jacket before the coming season I suggest you start this process now rather than waiting until the last minute as these builds take time. If interested please contact me David Sheeley at your earliest convenience to discuss your build. Please look at my other jacket options available.
