Description: Mid 19th century needlepoint - c.1860. Worked in wool on gauze, this needlepoint is just delightful with fine quality stitch work throughout. The gauze is dominated by a charming image of a King Charles spaniel sporting a blue collar lying comfortably on a red paisley pattern cushion with gold tassels, whist the edges are stitched with a lined border pattern. THE NEEDLPOINT DOES NOT HAVE GLASS BUT DOES RETAIN ITS BACKING BOARD. As such, I'm not able to see the reverse, but the gauze has overall discolouration consistent with its age. The colours of the wool appear good though they are likely to have mellowed to some extent over the years. There is bleeding to the upper half of the stitching and a couple of stitches missing to the outermost line to the border pattern running across the top edge. The needlework is contained within its seemingly original good quality substantial rosewood frame with integral painted slip. The frame is in good condition with the odd scratch and scuff marks commensurate with its age. PLEASE NOTE:- This is a fairly large piece measuring 20 1/2" x 16 1/2" (sight size) and 28" x 24" including the frame. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO MENTION THAT I HAVE USED A RELATIVELY NEW CAMERA TO TAKE THESE PHOTOGRAPHS AND I AM STRUGGLING WITH THE COLOUR BALANCE (something I'm STILL continuing to work on!!) AS SUCH, SOME OF MY PHOTOS HAVE A SLIGHTLY FIERY OR YELLOWISH LOOK TO THEM WHICH IS NOT THE CASE, IT'S JUST MY INCOMPETENCE! ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK.
