The underside of the base is hallmarked byMeriden Britannia from Meriden CT, 1852-1862.Numbered 1887. This Victorian cake basket / flower basket features a solid swivel handle with pierced floral ornament in the center.The solid handle swivels perfectly. In some of the pictures it stands upright because I found the point of balance. But it will not stay upright when the basket is moved.The basket features a pedestal with raised base.The wide border of the bowl features a beautiful pattern. NO MONOGRAMS. Great antique, highly decorative piece, perfect for use as; CAKE BASKET/TRAY, BUFFET TRAY/CENTERPIECE, for TEA SANDWICHES,BREAD-SNACK-SERVING or FLOWER BASKET. This piece is very sturdy, but shows a bit age wear in the plating here and there. The bowl leans a bit more to one side, not immediately visible. Please see the pictures. It is very clean, polished and shiny, ready for immediate use or display. Measures 12" H x 10" wide.The basket not including the handle is 5" H. It weighs 1 lb. 9 oz. before the wrapping.
