Description: Title: Psalter, France, Circa 1230-1260. Illuminated Manuscript on Parchment, with Five Historiated Initials. By an Artist from the Assisi or Soissons Atelier Condition: Very Good A beautiful and substantially complete early to mid 13th century illuminated Psalter, inscribed in a Gothic textualis script, produced in France, most likely in Paris, and brightly illuminated throughout, with five historiated initials. The style of illumination bears astonishingly close similarities to examples by the Assisi or Soissons Atelier, both Parisian groupings, with comparisons made to the initial work, line fillers, and the historiated initials. This Psalter is illuminated throughout, with 5 8–9-line historiated initials, each one brightly illuminated and shining. There are 171 3-4 initials, one large 6-line initial, and well over 1000 1 and 2-line Lombard initials in gold and blue, with fleuronné penwork, as well as numerous red and blue line fillers throughout. The historiated initials are as followed: ff 27r: Judas kiss, to Ps. 27, Dominus illuminatio mea ff 93r: Anointing of Christ, to Ps. 80, Exultate Deo adjutori nostro ff 112r: Christ's Resurrection, on Ps. 97, Cantate Dominum canticum novum ff 113v: The three Marys at the tomb of Christ, to Ps. 101, Domine exaudi orationem meam ff 131r: Noli me tangere, to Ps. 109, Dixit Dominus Domino meo Some leaves are lacking at the beginning and end, as well as a few in between. One finely bound illuminated manuscript in 12mo, 191 leaves This manuscript is in very good shape, with minor rubbing and wear to the binding. Almost every page is partially trimmed, as can be seen with the margins of the initials and the penwork flourishes that decorate the leaves. Folio 41 has had the upper margin trimmed away. The lower margins of folios 175-177 have been trimmed. There is a very small hole to one folio, obscuring a word. The lower right corner of folio 157 is lacking, with no text or illumination loss. There is very light soiling or smudging throughout. The text to the verso of the last leaf is slightly faded in places.I typically ship within 1-2 business days of receiving payment.
