He was one of the first major publishers of literature in the vernacular Italian language.Books like this from mediaeval times were printed on hand presses and sold unbound by the printer. The purchaser would then take the pages to their family's bookbinder, who would hand sew the page sections together and attach the covers and spine which in this case are crafted from animal skin ("parchment"). An interesting note: the final page of this book contains the instructions from the printer to the bookbinder, giving the order in which the pages should appear in final form. Pages are unmarked, binding very secure. Some age-related soiling as would be expected. Hand-bound, printed with a handpress, with parchment cover and gold gilt titling on spine. Cover, being constructed of animal skin, has tightened over the centuries and lifts away several inches from the text block. Previous owner's bookplate and name inside front cover (from 1771!)
