Description: MCM VINTAGE HAND CARVED WOOD CHESSMEN MADE in FRANCE by LARDY This Beautiful Set of Carved Wood Chessmen have no marks or labels on either the chessmen or the wood box with the sliding lid, but I was told this set was made in France by Lardy. The Kings are 3 1/2” tall with a 1 3/8” unpadded base, and the Pawns are 1 5/8” tall and 1” across the base. The set is complete but there are 2 replaced black pawns that look very similar but are just slightly taller and they have a smaller base, and the blond King has a chip in the ring near the top and a small crack near the base that I show in my photos. The 9 1/2” by 5 1/4” by 3 3/8” wood box with the sliding lid has a black marker #4 on the one end and this one does not have the dove-tail edges that all the older boxes I have had do, but it is the box I found this set in and its a good size for this set. I show it set up on a chessboard to show the set is complete but this board is not included in the auction.
