Description: The 5000 first ouguiya (MRO) was printed in 2011. It is the largest denomination issued by the Central Bank of Mauritania. It is a brownish color and follows the same design theme as other notes in this series. It was devalued in 2017 to be equal to 500 second ouguiya and then demonetized in 2021.The banknote includes historical buildings and designs typical of the local culture. The largest image is of a large locomotive. This represents a train that carries iron ore and people across the nation. This train is more than 2 kilometers long making it the longest routinely scheduled train. The train has been operated as 3 kilometers long. This same image is used on the 1000 second Ouguiya. The banknote also includes a hologram shared with other denominations and a large stripe of UV fluorescent ink.
