Description: This is a very beautiful pair of decoys!. From descriptions they appear to be the lighter (not has heavy) models that were made later in the Mason Factory history (1896-1924), Detroit, Michigan. They are two similar, and well-matched working decoys, Mason Painted Eye Mallards. These two decoys have seen wear and tear, probably from many hunting excursions. The patina on the decoys makes me feel that they have a more intriguing story to tell than decoys that have never been used. They need a good home. Their paint is well preserved but also worn. The drake is scuffed, worn, and includes some wood losses on the left neck area, but it includes what appears to be original paint, which is still visible, with a green head, orange bill, lighter colored lower body feathers vs the upper body wing feathers, a rust-colored but un-scalloped bib, green speculum on the bird's left side, and a black tail and mantle with central gray-coloring also on the mantle. The bird's left eye still shows some orange painted edging. The drake also shows the painted white ring around the neck. The hen is scuffed, worn, and including black residue on the left front base, but still has visible (presumed to be) original paint, an orange bill, a slightly lighter colored body feathers vs the mantle of the bird, and green speculum on the bird's left side. The bird's eyes both show the original painted edging. Both birds have old nail holes on their bases.
