Mark Twain Innocents Abroad Complete 1895 Inscribed Illustrated First Edition

Description: Rare copy of Mark Twain’s Innocents Abroad, full story in one volume, hardcover first edition with illustrations first printed in 1895. Super old, truly vintage book. The book does contain an inscription by Twain to his mother in what appears to be his original handwriting (I think this is very cool). Although the interior of the book is in good condition, quite obviously the outside is in a state. Whatever material initially covered the book has come off over 100+ years. I’m not sure what the material is (maybe leather?) but because all of it has come off the cover, the cover can actually be repaired/recovered without much fuss— provided one knows how to do this—but to fix the back would require removing the rest of this strangely tacky, odd feeling material. The actual print and illustrations are in fabulous condition—very readable, easy to view, almost look new. However, the full page illustrations have come loose and have been placed in the front of the book with a few other loose pages (these other loose pages are entirely blank and most likely were there to keep Twain’s inscription from imprinting onto other pages that also have print. His inscription DID end up imprinting backward and faintly on the Library of Congress page). The pages have the same texture as pages in old coloring books, so it’s thicker than standard white paper. Note that the pages are off-white and feel old (I don’t know how else to describe it. If you were blind and touched the pages, you’d automatically know the pages are old). The spine is still intact and the pages were originally sewn in so nothing is loose/threatening to fall out or apart. However, the thickness of the book is causing a clean split (it’s not fully split—the book is whole—but where the book naturally opens to the middle, the split is obvious). The only loose pages are the ones in the front of the book—no pages are falling out willy-nilly all over the place. Please review all the photos carefully and judge for yourself. I’ve captured every angle and tried to show every visible problem in this 600+ page book.
