Description: From a local estate auction: a wonderful antique tablecloth with Art Nouveau damask patterns. The tablecloth measures about 72" square; two ends are embellished with hand tatted edging for an additional half inch. The tatting is looped triads and is in excellent shape. This has silky linen fabric with woven-in damask patterns right out of the Art Nouveau era: around the borders with the tatting there are large poppy flowers, with the blossoms measuring 5" across! In the center of the cloth the pattern has self-stripes with smaller blossoms along the lines, as shown in the closeups. It is always hard to show white-on-white patterns, so some of the photos are darkened, but be assured that the tablecloth is nicely white. This is in excellent condition. It came to me fresh from commercial cleaners and has no holes or monograms or rips, and no funky odors. I did find an area with a few very faint marks, as shown in the last photo; these look like the shadows of stains that almost came out but not quite. Despite this, it is an heirloom tablecloth. It is lovely as a table dressing but the fabric could be reused to make curtains or other use.
