He was the director of the Laguna Gloria Museum, Austin and was the executive director of the Texas Fine Arts Association. He was an accomplished printmaker, painter, and photographer. Dreyer exhibited with the Texas Watercolor Society and Texas Fine Arts Association before moving to Virginia with his wife Evelyn Gay Wilson Dreyer. She headed the art department of Old Dominion University. He taught art from a studio in the Hermitage Museum in Norfolk and taught photography at Old Dominion University.
