Description: Lilium auratum is a 9- species/perennial herb in the Liliaceae family. Its native range is in Japan. Familiar names include Golden-Rayed Lily of Japan, Mountain Lily, and goldband lily. The strong-scented flowers are the largest of any lily species. This species has been eaten by the Japanese and Chinese but since it is widely wanted in the market they now eat Lilium leichtlinii as a substitute. It can grow to 8 feet tall with flowers usually white with gold markings and orange spots. It is in bloom from mid-summer until early fall. It prefers to grow in full sun to part shade with average water needs. Zones 3-9 Germination Keep lily seeds frozen in a tightly sealed plastic bag until you are ready to sow. Sow seeds 1/2' deep into the soil and keep moist in a sunny location. Germination occurs in 3-4 weeks. You will have strong plants with mature stems in 3 years.
