Description: Laurel Greenbrier Smilax Laurifolia25 Seeds The greenbriar is an evergreen vine that is native to Florida & many surrounding states. It does flower very tiny white flowers in the late Springtime. Dark Blue / Purple berries follow and continue to hang on the vine through winter. It is said that the 'grapes' are edible, but very astringent. I popped on in my mouth, chewed, and asked "What is astringent?" My face changed to a yucky frown and papa said yep, that is astringent. The vines are viscous! Some prickles may be over 1 cm long! Although it is annoying and skin piercing to clear out, AKA Blaspheme vine. We keep the 'thickets' around the perimeter of our property to hinder deer & trespassers. These vines are not picky - they grow in the lowest, wettest bogs and at the very top of dry sand hills. Deer, Squirrels, Rabbits, Black Bear, Opossums & Birds love to eat the dark blue / purple berries in the winter-time. These seeds were harvested February 2023 Seed Starting Soak seeds in warm water overnight Direct sow seeds once temps reach 70+ Deg F OR Start in Pots with greenhouse or grow lights Seeds will start to sprout within 2-4 months After plant is established, a orange / yellow tuber will form and the vine will start to grow more branches & will come back if cut.
