Description: For auction is a collection of antique-looking Chinese ancestor scrolls of emperors and empresses. I came across a large cardboard tube filled with 14 scrolls, 9 of them appear to be unique while there are some duplicates. Some scrolls illustrate a different emperor or empress according to the script at the top of the scroll with different faces but the same costume, indicating that the paintings (in colored ink) are partially the result of some manufacture/printing process. While the costumes are the same, often colored differently, the faces are different. Each scroll is printed/colored on antique looking rice(?) paper with an upper and lower scroll bar. The upper scroll bar is square in outline with a bent nail in the middle holding a string for hanging. The printed paper is edged with a 1/4" dark brown strip running the length of the scroll. Total length is about 60" with a width of 27". For reference each scroll is numbered in the upper left and priced at $115.00 each. The Chinese script at the top of the scrolls is translated with Goggle Translate thus it may be correct, or not.Scroll 1 is Emperor Shunzhi, 2 is Emperor Kangxi, 3 is Empress Xiaoxian, 4 is Emperor Taizong Huang Taiji, 5 is Empress Xioaxian, 6 has "no script' emperor and empress, 7 is Empress Xiao, 12 is Emperor Sejong Yonzheng, and 14 is Emperor Gauzong Qianlong. These scrolls are dramatic and dynamic. Wonderful for a Chinese-culture home decoration or perhaps a Chinese restaurant. If purchasing, please indicate the reference number in upper left.
