Description: If you're a fan of Ronald Reagan, then you should probably own a copy of King's Row by Henry Bellamann. Originally published in 1940, King's Row tells the dramatic story of a sleepy midwest town (based on his home town of Fulton, MO, though he claims vociferously that the novel is entirely fictional.) When the novel was filmed in 1942, Ronald Reagan was cast as lead character Drake McHugh. This role has been the best-reviewed performance of Reagan's acting career. King's Row is really fascinating. Lyrically written and treating on a variety of dark and serious topics around small town life, the novel has drawn comparisons to Sinclair Lewis' Main Street. Both novels are simultaneously celebrated and reviled by the novelists' home towns -- thrilled to have a famous and successful native son, but put off by the scathing depiction reflected in the texts. This copy is a 1945 24th printing of the 1940 first edition (so, not a true first edition, but an early print.) Here are the condition notes: Good used condition. Hardcover, no dust jacket. Red clot boards are good with moderate edge wear, some crushing at the base of the spine and lightly bumped corners. Interior is clean and unmarked with off-white, lightly tanned pages. Binding is tight and intact throughout. See photos for details.
