kato 2021, JNR Steam Locomotive c11, n scale, NIB, ships from the USA

Description: the JNR class c11 steam locomotive was a 2-6-4 tank type engine designed in the early 1930s to satisfy JNR's need for a domestically produced, general purpose tower for the secondary routes; the tank engine configuration limited the range before coal and water re-supply to approximately 60 km......381 c11s were constructed between 1932 and 1947 by the pantheons of the JNR fabrication partners - hitachi, kawasaki, nippon sharyo, and kisha seizo.......top operating speed was 85 kph, and the tank engine design facilitated reverse operations as turntables were not available on many small routes.....the design was so ideally suited to its intended task that service life extended into the mid 1960s, coinciding with the onset of shinkansen era in JNR history.... i acquired this 2021 from a private party (collector) in japan who averred that the item was unused except for a test run at the brick and mortar shop of purchase......my inspection on arrival confirmed the seller as an honest broker, and I decided to forego my normal test run......... this second release by kato of the c11 - the first was the 2002 - features the core-less motor design which assures realistic operations at even slow speeds, the large sprued number board configuration which allows a less fractious number board installation, and chip led technology in the head lamp design accessories include number boards (one set of which was installed by the brick and mortar shop of purchase - a not infrequent service performed in Japan), coupler alternatives for front and rear, and front end details to effect a coupler change forward........instructions in japanese with pictures are included...... kato suggests a r216 minimum for operation of this model; i would suggest r280 minimum......
