This is a 82 disc box set of Karajan's albums produced by Gramophone in Germany in the 1960s. These include the 1959 Lives of Heroes, Hungarian Dances, and Slav Dances, as well as the 1971 Apollo over the Muse, the 1973 R. Strauss Horn Concerto No. 2, and an unconducted Berlin Philharmonic performance (CD70, 72). Each disc is marked ORIGINAL-IMAGE-BIT-PROCESSING, enclosed in a beautiful paper jacket, and a luxurious 200 page booklet containing an interview with Thomas Brandis, the concert master who supported the Berlin Philharmonic in its golden age from 1962 to 1983, and a photograph of Karajan performing. Karajan dominated the European music scene in those days, and his performances were full of confidence and splendid. The rich sound of the Berlin Philharmonic in the past was recorded in stable stereo and the sound quality was good.
