MEXICAN ETNO-FUSION: A genre that emerged in Mexico during the 80's, when some progressive rock musicians began to use pre-Hispanic instruments with the intention of creating a new and unique type of music, which also rescued part of the identity of the ancient pre-Hispanic civilizations. These authors even worked on research to duplicate instruments that disappeared from the ancient cultures of Mexico, such as the Aztec or Maya, among many others. This type of music includes elements of Rock, Jazz, Electronic Music, Contemporary Classical, Ambient, Folk, etc.JORGE REYES: Famous for making fusions of different types of music, spreading pre-Hispanic music through his albums and for having been a member of the legendary Mexican progressive rock band Chac Mool.Jorge was born in Uruapan, Michoacán and studied music at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. During the seventies he went to Europe to continue learning from musicians. He formed the groups "Al Universo" and "Nuevo México".In 1980 he was a member of the Chac Mool group whose leader was Armando Suárez. He becomes a flutist and guitarist for the group and prints all his musical knowledge throughout four albums. In 1985, the legendary group dissolved and Jorge began a prolific solo career that would take him to many places and to become one of the most recognized Mexican musicians in the world.Jorge Reyes is recognized worldwide for his mixes of progressive rock with pre-Hispanic music, thus spreading Mexican popular culture.He passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2009, at the age of 57, while he was sleeping at his home in Mexico City.
