Description: John Lennon and Paul McCartney signed Yellow Submarine stationery circa 1976 signatures acquired in New York City on two separate occasions when I along with my wife Cindy and well known Paparazzi photographer Vinnie Zuffante met Paul McCartney and John Lennon. During the late 1970's we became good friends with Vinnie Zuffante a well known NY city photographer (Google Vinnie Zuffante) who in those days followed all the stars around New York City taking pictures. We met Vinnie at Beatlefest and became fast friends. At the time we lived in Philadelphia PA and many times Vinnie would invite us to come up to NY where we would join Vinnie on the streets of New York in search of the stars (or in our case ...BEATLES!) We went to NYC In 1976 and on one such very lucky day Vinnie received information from his sources that Paul and Linda McCartney were in town briefly from their WINGS Over America tour, Vinnie knew right where to go! To our great surprise we found ourselves late in the evening waiting for and then meeting Paul and Linda McCartney outside the NY Stanhope Hotel!! We met Paul briefly as he ran past us into the hotel upon returning from a WINGS concert (see blurry pocket camera image of Paul racing by me). We came back to the hotel the next day and waited again when Paul and Linda would emerge from the hotel to go to their limo and Paul signed our Yellow Submarine stationery in purple ink (you can see on the back how the ink went right through the paper.) Needless to say......we were thrilled to meet Paul and actually walk down a street with him and Linda before they got into their limousine! (see my pocket camera photos of Paul walking down the street signing and then getting into his limo) On a seperate occasion around the same time frame we got up to NY met Vinnie Zuffante on a beautiful sunny Saturday and decided to go to the Dakota Apartments to wait for John and Yoko Lennon. We had no idea if John was even in town in or if he was in or out of the apartment building but we decided to wait for him any way. It was a beautiful sunny day and after an hour or so a cab pulled up to the Dakota Apartment entrance and out popped John, Yoko and baby Sean Lennon. John headed for the building entrance signing a few items for a few fans waiting there including us signing our Yellow Submarine stationery in black roller ball ink and then John, Yoko and baby Sean Lennon went inside the apartment building. ABOUT THE PHOTOS The images tell the story of when in 1976 we met Paul and Linda at the Stanhope hotel. We arrived in the evening and waited for Paul when the police arrived on the scene and apparently were feeling artistic took my pocket camera I had with me to take the images of us, the policeman said "Waiting for McCartney huh... here take this photo!" (see photo of NY police laughing with a gun to my throat and things for Paul to sign in my hand). The police also handcuffed us to the canopy of the Stanhope Hotel for laughs ( see handcuff image) Later that Night Paul and Linda came back from a concert (1976 Wings Over America Tour ) and as he ran past us I snapped a pocket camera image (see photo) meanwhile Vinnie Zuffante followed them inside the Stanhope Hotel and took the image of Paul and Linda in the elevator. (see photo) The images of Paul signing for us were the next day when we went back to the Stanhope Hotel and Paul and Linda exited the Hotel out of the side entrance and we ran down the street and I walked right next to Paul as he signed and as we walked down the street Paul signed for other fans holding the papers etc. in his hand. (see pocket camera photo I took of Paul signing for fans as we walked along to his limo) The images of John Lennon were taken outside the Dakota Apartments when we waited for John and Yoko to arrive. John and Yoko are seen exiting the cab with a baby Sean in Yoko's arms. John stopped while we took photos and you can see Vinnie Zuffante's image is on the left at the exact same second I took my pocket camera image of John on the right. (see photos of John in blue denim jacket) Of special historical note is the fact that one in the series of images of John Lennon taken that day by Vinnie Zuffante was used in newspapers all around the world in 1980 when tragically John was gunned down at the very spot. Vinnie Zuffante was a genius with the camera and we are grateful he took us along to MEET THE BEATLES! (see Yellow Submarine stationery signed by both John Lennon and Paul McCartney) Originally we intended to get all four Beatles to sign our Yellow Submarine stationery but as John Lennon sang "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans" we were never able to get George or Ringo to sign. Although we tried to stay in touch with Vinnie our lives were going in separate directions we got married and Vinnie (who was actually our wedding photographer) eventually moved to LA to photograph the Hollywood stars. Sadly just a few years later after a long illness our good friend and well known photographer of the stars Vinnie Zuffante passed away. Vinnie was a beautiful person, great friend, great photographer and it was because of him that we would MEET THE BEATLES in New York City!
