Description: VINTAGE 1960s ? SIGNED JIM THOMPSON THAI SILK SCARF ELEPHANT BORDER 32 1/2" by 32 1/4"Up for auction is this spectacular vintage signed Jim Thompson silk scarf. Just look at the pictures and see how beautiful this scarf is. This scarf was made in Thailand of 100% silk. We believe it was made in the 1960s to 1980s. . but it could be older or newer. This scarf has a lovely diamond pattern with a crackled background. The border features gorgeous elephants. As the pictures demonstrate this scarf is in excellent vintage condition and ready to wear or display.LENGTH 32 1/2"WIDTH 32 1/4"The story of Jim Thomson is very interesting to say the least. He graduated from Princeton and represented The United States in the 1928 Olympics in sailing. He then worked as an architect and joined the National Guard. Eventually he served in the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) the forerunner of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). In 1945 Jim Thompson worked for the U.S. government in Thailand. After returning to the U.S. he then went back to Thailand in 1946 and joined investors in buying The Oriental Hotel in Bangkok. In 1948 he founded the THAI SILK COMPANY. The company was very successful. On March 26, 1967 Jim Thompson disappeared while taking a walk in Malaysia. He was never seen again and his body has never been recovered. Speculation of his disappearance range from political assassination to wild animals killing him.
