The 8 pages of English text explaining the pictures begins "This picture takes us back to the days when education in Japan was.. a private effort, the present system of government schools.. dating only from 1871". Folded accordian-style between two illustrated paper boards, the first 5 illustrations attached to the front board, the final 5 and text pages attached to the rear board. No signs of sewing or spine. Very good, covers slightly marked, some browning to the back of pages, colours bright to illustrations. Owner's inscription "Edward Gosling from Aunt Jeanette" to front endpaper.
