Description: Turkish Iznik Ware Hand Painted Serving or Decorative Bowl.Purchased in the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul over 20 years ago. The bowl is 10 1/4” in diameter & 4” in height. Iznik ware is a type of mixed stoneware or frit ware ceramic that began being made in the pottery town of Iznik in Anatolia at the end of the 15th century (1475-1500). The decoration of the ware was deeply influenced by Chinese blue & white porcelain which was admired & collected by the Ottoman Sultans. Today Iznik ware is being made in emulation of the original ware.
