The pretty teardrop-shaped stones display characteristic indigo purple banding swirled through clear fluorite, and are mounted in classic frames of polished silver, open at the back. Blue John is the rarest, most valuable and most sought-after of all the forms of fluorite. Blue John only comes from the Blue John Cavern and Treak Cliff Cavern at Castleton in Derbyshire. It is characterised by purple or bluish-purple veins and a yellow, cream or almost white colouration, with lots of feathery markings within the stone.
