From 1988 till 2003, India minted Stainless Steel 50 Paise coins regularly. After gap of 3 years - 2004,2005 & 2006, India issued 50 paise of coin for year 2007, which was last in the series. For 2008 and 2009, India issued 50 paise coins with changed design with 'fist'. Again in 2011 India changed the design of all the coins: Rs. 10,5,2,1 & 50 paise, with NEW DESIGN WITH "RUPEE" SYMBOL " R " IN HINDI(UNLIKE "$" FOR DOLLARS ETC.) So far India has issued 50 Paise coins for alternate years: 2011, 2013 and 2015.
