Description: Presented is a wonderful antique American sterling silver large punch or soup serving ladle, dating to circa 1871-1899. This ladle is made by Wood & Hughes in a classic Medallion type pattern, featuring a particularly large and detailed oval cameo of a Greco-Roman woman in profile, likely Hera/Juno in this case. The bowl of the ladle is an exceptionally large size, perfect for serving very generous portions of punch, soup, or whatever else you like, and is made in an elongated and fluted design, almost like an oyster shell. Very handsome and impressive serving piece! This ladle is in excellent condition. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs. This piece is stamped with the maker's mark for Wood & Hughes, as well as sterling and a retail mark for Larmour & Co. The maker's mark can be dated to 1871-c1899, by the distinctive sideways ampersand between the initials. The ladle measures about 14 inches long. The ladle weighs 198 grams or 7 regular ounces. -jm Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
