The Yamato was the largest battleship ever built, displacing over 72,000 tons and its main artillery consisted of nine 46cm guns (18 inch) On April 7, 1945, on the march to Okinawa, 386 carrier planes attacked in several waves, the Americans scored 13 torpedo hits and eight heavy bomb hits. Finally the Yamato capsized and an explosion of the forward magazine tore the ship apart. The Yamato marks the climax as well as the end of the battleship era. The turrets and rangefinders are rotatable and the gun barrels can be aimed at height. The deck and superstructure can be removed. There is an aircraft hangar in the stern.
