The company was founded in 1980 by David Tran, a Vietnamese refugee who named it after the boat he escaped Vietnam on. The rooster symbol in the Sriracha branding is a tribute to Tran's birth year. His journey began with selling hot sauce to Asian restaurants in California, a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit and love for spicy flavors. For decades, the company sourced its peppers from Underwood Ranches in Ventura County, California. However, a legal dispute in 2017 ended this relationship.
