Description: Here we have a valuable artistic document by a pioneer of experimental sound; instrument inventor and musical theorist HUGH DAVIES: Sounds Heard, a book-plus-CD set published in 2002 by Soundworks, now long unavailable. This book collects much of Davies' writing on environmental listening, musical history, improvisation and indeterminacy, new instruments, audio art and installations, teaching musical concepts to children, etc. It also includes Hugh's project descriptions and workbooks. 124 pages, with pictures and photographs. The CD is an amazing collection of early plunderphonia, installation recordings, pieces for invented instruments and sound sculptures, musical boxes and found instruments (buzzers, dot matrix printers, eggslicers, tin can, fishing line and more). An important contribution to the field, any way you look at it. Through the years, Hugh Davies has performed and worked with the likes of Derek Bailey. Borbetomagus, Peter Brotzmann, Evan Parker, Karlheinz Stockhausen and many more, in case you doubted his artistic chops. This book shows very slight wear on the lower edge of the front cover, while the CD has never been played.
